Development within frequently flooded areas of Grays Harbor County is regulated to protect the public, property and value of the floodplain by preserving their function as a natural means of flood control while allowing for reasonable use of private and public property. ALL forms of development in the Special Flood Hazard Area require a Floodplain Development Permit.  This includes structures of any size, mining, dredging, filling, grading, paving, excavation or drilling operations, or storage of equipment and/or materials.

A Permit shall be obtained before construction or development begins within any area of special flood hazard established by Grays Harbor County Code Title 18.06, Article V - Frequently Flooded Areas in accordance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Federal Insurance Administration, and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements.
